Titus 2:3-5 "The aged women likewise,
that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false
accusers, not given to much wine, teachers
of good things; That they may teach the young women to
be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To
be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to
their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed."
The above three verses are packed with devotinal material
for women, but we don't have the room or the time right now
to deal with each aspect of
it (that will be a good study for you to do on your own.)
So, I want to focus on the last phrase, "that the word of
God be not blasphemed." The
scripture there says that the older women are to teach the
younger women the seven things that are listed there so that
God's Word is not
blasphemed. According to Webseter 1828 dictionary, to
blaspheme means to speak of the Supreme Being in terms of
impious irreverence; to revile or
speak reproachfully of God, or the Holy Spirit; to speak
evil of; to utter abuse or calumny against; to speak
reproachfully of. So, we see
from these verses that a woman should be sober, love her
husband, love her children, be discreet (prudent, wise,
circumspect), be chaste (pure,
true to the marriage bed),be a keeper at home, be good, and
be obedient to her husband so that the Word of God will not
be reviled or spoken of
reproachfully, spoken evil of. It is not speaking evil of
God's Word with your mouth necessarily (although that could
be taking place if you share
your "opinion" with other people about how you don't believe
a woman has to do everything mentioned above), but with your
actions. Someone said
your words speak but your actions shout, that is so true.
Whether your say you don't believe it or not, your actions
let every one know loud and
clear what is in your heart. A similar scripture to
this deals with servant and their masters: "Let as
many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters
worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine
be not blasphemed." 1
Timothy 6:1. Here it says that the name of God and his
doctrine be not blasphemed. Psalms 138:2 says, "I will
worship toward thy holy temple,
and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy
truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name."
The Lord has set His Word
above His name; when we blaspheme His Word that is
something. In Isaiah 37:23 the Lord said to the Assyrians,
"Whom hast thou reproached and
blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice,
and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One
of Israel." When we
reproach or blaspheme the Lord or His Word we are lifting up
ourselves above His and His Word. II Corinthians 10:3-6
says, "For though we walk
in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:(For the weapons
of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the
pulling down of
strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high
thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and
bringing into captivity
every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a
readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience
is fulfilled." Through the
Lord, we have spiritual weapons to cast down our proud
thoughts and beliefs that exalt themselves against the Lord
and His Word and to be
obedient to His commandments. When a woman refuses to obey
the Word of God she puts herself in the same class as the
Anti-Christ; look at II
Thesalonians 2:3&4 that says, "Let no man deceive you by any
means: for that day shall not come, except there come a
falling away first, and that
man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth
and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that
is worshipped; so that he
as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he
is God." I don't know about you, but I don't want to be
identified with him; I want
to obey and not blaspheme God's Word. May the Lord bless you
till next time.
