“Who can find a virtuous woman?
for her price is far above rubies.” -
Proverbs 31:10 Websters 1828 dictionary says that virtue is
voluntary obedience to
truth. So, in order to be a virtuous woman, we must be
voluntarily obedient to truth, which is the Word of God, of
course (John 17:17). As
women, we have many commands that we are to obey, such as,
Eph. 5:22 - "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own
husbands, as unto the Lord.";
"The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as
becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much
wine, teachers of good things; That
they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their
husbands, to love their children,To be discreet, chaste,
keepers at home, good,
obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not
blasphemed." - Titus 2:3-5; as well as many others. Are we
really virtuous in these
matters? The text there in Proverbs says that a virtuous
woman's price is far above rubies and who can find one. Out
of 1,000 women, Solomon never
found one. Think about that, there wasn't even one out of
1,000; sounds like there is a very small percentage of women
who are really virtuous,
but that should not keep us from striving to be so. If we
will just deny ourselves and voluntarily submit to what the
Lord tells us to do, we will
be virtuous. II Peter 1:5 says, "And beside this, giving all
diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue
knowledge;" The Lord told us that
the first thing that we are to stive to add to our faith is
virtue. After salvation, obeying the truth is the next step.
A few other scriptures to
look up about virtue are Mark 5:30,Luke 6:19,Luke 8:46, and
Phil. 4:8.Proverbs 12:4 says, "A virtuous woman is a crown
to her husband: but
she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones." We
are all the bride of the Lord Jesus Christ, let us strive to
be a crown to Him, not
rottenness in His bones. Until next time, hopefully not too
long away.
