"This is the ordinance of the law which the LORD hath
commanded, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, that
they bring thee a red heifer
without spot, wherein is no blemish, and upon which never
came yoke:"- Numbers 19:2. In the verse above we see that
there were specific
requirements for the animal to be sacrificed to the Lord.
The red heifer mentioned above was to be burned and a
purifying water was to be made
from the ashes. I could give you verse after verse about the
requirements for different kinds of sacrifices, some were
bullocks, some lambs, some
rams, some were goats and then of course the turtle doves
and so on. But each one had very similar requirements,
without blemish; they had to be
perfect physically. This was the same requirement for the
final sacrifice, the Lamb of God. Look at I Peter 1:19 -
"But with the precious
blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without
spot:" The Lord Jesus Christ was a perfect sacrifice,
without sin, without blemish, Holy.
If He had not been a perfect sacrifice He could not have
cleanesed us from our sin. Romans 12:1 says, "I beseech you
therefore, brethren, by
the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living
sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your
reasonable service." The Lord has
asked us to be a living sacrifice for Him here on this
earth, why do we think that He will accept anything but a
holy, acceptable sacrifice
without spot and blemish? He wants us to sacrifice our
selves, our bodies and our spirits (I Cor. 6:19-20); to give
up the fleshly lusts and the
carnal mind and the proud spirit that we love to cleave to
and to die daily and be crucified with Him. That is a holy
and acceptable sacrifice.
It does matter what kind of sacrifice we bring to the Lord.
He did not accept Cains sacrifice, you have to bring it
according to the statutes of
the Lord. He said, "But as he which hath called you is holy,
so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is
written, Be ye holy;
for I am holy." - I Peter 1:15-16. Until next time,
may the Lord bless you.
