My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
Proverbs 2:1
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.   Psalms 119:11

Hiding the Word of God in our hearts is so important because there is someone who would like to steal it away from us. In the parable of the sower and the seed in Luke 8, the Lord Jesus Christ explains what the parable is about. In verse 11 & 12, He says, The seed is the word of God. Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. Now, I know that in this particular instance, the context is about salvation, but this would be true in a Christian's life as well. The Devil would love to steal every seed of the Word of God out of your heart, because if he can do that, he can keep you from growing and becoming a victorious Christian. There are three ways to "Hide" the Word of God in your heart that it might not be stolen. 1. Memorize: if you will commit passages of scripture to memory, learning word for word the scripture it will stick with you much longer and even when you may forget the exact words, you will still know the meaning of the passage and where to find it. 2. Meditating on it: it is not enough to quickly read through a passage; it takes the meditating and pondering it for it to stick with you. The Bible says about Mary the mother of Jesus that she kept these things and pondered them in her heart. Joshua 1:8 says, This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. And the verse there in Joshua leads us to the last way; apply it: When you meditate on it, it becomes real to you then you apply it or put it in practice and then your Christian life will be a success. You make the changes in your life and you will be able to look back and point other people to that passage as the catalyst for that change. You do those three things and the devil will not be able to steal it away. (As a side note: this is why you want to help your children to memorize, meditate and apply).

Now, on the other hand, there are some things that we are not supposed to hide.

1. You don't try to hide your sin. Don't be like Achan in Johsua chapter 7. The Bible says in Proverbs 28:13, He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. Then in Psalms 32:5, I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. And Psalms 69:5 says, O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee. So, it doesn't do any good that hide your sin from God, He knows about it anyway. And you will not prosper or be successful until you confess it and forsake it (repentance). And according to Isaiah 59:2 He hides Himself from us if we will not forsake our sins.

2. Don't try to hide God's goodness. Psalm 40:10 says, I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation. Psalm 51:14-15 says, Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. And Psalm 78:4 says, We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done. If anybody needs to hear of God's marvelous works, it is the children of this day. Give God the praise for all He has done and glorify Him to saints and sinners. Lift Him up.

3. Don't hide the Gospel to the sinner. II Corinthians 4:3 says, But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost. The devil has got a lot of people's minds blinded to the gospel. We need to proclaim it and show it to all sinners because when we do, and they are saved then the work of the Lord in their life will hide  many sins. Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. James 5:20 This also goes for a Christian that errs, don't hide there sins from them. Try to convert them with much prayer and with the Word of God. It will cover a multitude of sins.

Until next time, may the Lord bless you and guide you into all truth.
