Genesis 1:4 says, And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

From the creation of this world, the Lord separated darkness from light; the Bible says in I John 1:5 it says, This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. Another example of this is in Exodus 14:20 we see God's chosen people separted from the Egyptians by the cloud and the the Israelites being in light but the Egyptians being in darkness. Darkness and light are total opposites, total contrasts and they don't mix; you either have darkness or you have light. Now, spiritually speaking we were in darkness until the light shone unto us. Matt. 4:16, Luke 1:79, John 1:4-9, 8:12, 12;46 all agree with II Corinthians 4:6 which says, For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ is the light or this world and so is the Word of God, look at II Peter 1:19 which says We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts. Keeping this in mind, there are many places in the Bible that a child of God is admonished to stay in the light and separate from the darkness. Let's look a some of them: Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. - John 12:35.

The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. - Romans 13:12. Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? - 2 Corinthians 6:14.

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light....And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. - Ephesians 5:8 & 11. If you study Eph. 5 and II Corinthians 6:14, it is obvious that it is the workers of darkness that we are to separate from; not forgetting our resposibility to witness to them (oh no! it IS our job to preach the gospel to every creature), but we are not to have any fellowship with them. The same goes for someone who professes Christianity but walks in darkness and will not repent after being reproved. I Corinthians 5:9-13 says, I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within? But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person. And II Thessalonians 3:6,14,15 says, Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.... And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. Notice, they are not your enemy, you are to treat them as a brother, but to have no company with them. Why? well I will leave you with one verse, Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. - Luke 11:35. It is hard to walk in the light when you are walking beside darkness.

Till next time, may the Lord bless you.
